a letter

here is my letter to the AZ Tribune for all of you to see!

Mr. Solis, what makes you think that we want to strengthen
>Social Security? I personally would much rather put my money where i want to
>put it rather than where the government wants me to. The government does not
>have the right to "invest" your money, especially not a government that is
>billions of dollars in debt. Would you trust a stockbroker that consistently
>lost all of their client's money, and took out loans to cover for it?
> No, what we need is to get rid of Social Security, and allow people
>to do what they want with their own money. One way would be to let them
>invest that 15% (you may only actually put in 7.5%, but your employer also
>puts in 7.5% into Social Security) elsewhere, but a far better plan would be
>to just let them decide whether they wish to use the social security system
>or not.
> A possible way of moving away from Social Security would be a plan
>such as this; anyone on the plan would have a choice, they could either stop
>using Social Security, and never see any of the money that they have put
>into the system, but never have to put any more money in, or they could keep
>on the system, and use the benefits as they are currently designed. The
>people not yet on the system could be allowed to join, or not, either way i
>think most of the younger people not on Social Security would opt to not
>join. I know that I would, as I am positive i can make better financial
>decisions with my money than a government that is billions in debt.
> I am only 13, but Social Security does not make sense to me, as you are
>not guarunteed to get all of your money back, and due to government caused
>inflation even if you do get slightly more money back than what you put in,
>you will have lost money. I would urge all people capable of changing laws,
>especially congressmen, to look at and consider a plan like this. If we
>manage to come up with something to get rid of Social Security it will boost
>our economy. Getting rid of Social Security is as good a plan to help our
>economy as reducing income taxes, if not better, because everyone will see
>the same amount, 15% of their income, back in their pockets.
>
> Sincerely,
> Matthew J. Mahoney
> Chandler
